Device Description

The Intel Next Unit of Computing DC3217 is a small form-factor PC desktop, powered by a third-generation Intel Core i3-3217U processor (formerly "Ivy Bridge").

The DC3217 NUC is available in a few different variants. Some variants have two HDMI ports, whereas the DC3217BY features one HDMI port and one Thunderbolt-capable mini-DisplayPort.

This NUC features one half-length mSATA slot and one full-length mini-PCIe slot. It is available both as a NUC Desktop Board and as a NUC Desktop Kit with a low-profile chassis.

Support Status

  • NUC DC3217 - Green (Console OS works well on this device)

We fully support the Intel NUC DC3217 with Console OS Developer Release 1. Audio output may have problems, particularly over HDMI. This is a known issue.

You must be running either an Intel 3160 or Intel 7260 family Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card. We expect to add support for additional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chipsets in future releases.

We have not fully tested the mini-DisplayPort on this model. Thunderbolt devices will not function with Console OS at this time.

Due to limitations in this NUC's firmware, you cannot boot it from the Thunderbolt port. We do not support using Console OS with a USB 2.0 hard disk, though it may work if you have a fast one. The only official way we support booting Console OS on this NUC is through the mSATA drive.

Installation Instructions

You must be running the latest BIOS from Intel.com before installing Console OS. We only test and validate Console OS using the latest system BIOS available, and BIOS updates are critical to the performance-tuning of Console OS and the underlying UEFI firmware.
