Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u

Console OS > Wiki > Devices > Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u

Device Description

The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u is an Intel Convertible Ultrabook based on a third-generation Intel Core processor (formerly "Ivy Bridge"). It shares most components with the similarly-named Lenovo ThinkPad X230, but features a touchscreen on a swivel, allowing it to convert into a large tablet.

Support for ThinkPad Twist was added in Console OS Lollipop.

Installation Instructions

You must run Lenovo System Update before installing or trying Console OS, until it reports no updates available. The Twist has received more firmware updates than almost any device we have ever seen (save for possibly the Dell XPS 11).

Running the latest system firmware is essential for using Console OS with Android.

Wi-Fi Upgrade

We recommend upgrading the Wi-Fi with the Intel 2230 Wi-Fi card. Unfortunately the ThinkPad Twist, like most Lenovo laptops of this era, employs a BIOS blacklist. You must use a Lenovo-certified Intel 2230 with this laptop, which may be more expensive. A non-Lenovo version of the Intel 2230 will be rejected by your machine's BIOS on boot. We are not aware of any hacks for the S230u that bypass this, though there are modified BIOS available for other Lenovo systems.

The S230u features optional Ericsson-based WWAN. This is not supported today on Console OS, as no Android driver exists for it.
